In 2017 Bill van Nierop completed the The Long Walk For Lungs which followed a 697km route through Central Western NSW passing through the towns of Trundle, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo,Griffith, Leeton, Weethalle, Barellan, West Wyalong and finished in Forbes.

Along the way Bill managed spoke to many people to raise awareness of Idiopathic pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and raised $100,000 to support the work of The Lung Foundation Australia.
